What I Believe

  1. The quickest way to get to where you want to go is to love everybody and tell the truth.
  2. Everyone has something to teach you.
  3. Work is good for the soul (not all, but most).
  4. Apply more dakka. We underestimate how much of a solution we should throw at our problems.
  5. Memorization is a very underrated skill (poems, docs, languages, wildlife, geography, anything), and is a form of devotion.
  6. Video games are probably really bad for you but some are worth it.
  7. Long days are better than short days, and doing boring/slow things is a powerful way to increase the length of your day.
  8. There is a ton of breadth inside depth. If you go deep, you will inevitably also go wide, so focus on going deep.
  9. Let a hundred flowers bloom. Write a thousand roads to Rome. It’s okay (and even good) to make something that’s already been made.
  10. The best activities for deep contentedness/happiness: metta, weightlifting, dancing, doing work you’re proud of, cooking, positive interactions with strangers
  11. Unfortunately, happiness is not addictive and you have to remember to seek it out.
